Introdução à Tipografia Tradicional 2 Introduction to Letterpress 2

For our second introduction to letterpress workshop we gave the participants the project of selecting and typesetting parts of Pablo Neruda’s Ode á Tipografia. The project was given another dimension thanks to Jorge Valente from Centro de Artes do Papel who brought some artisan papers for us to use that he had made himself.

We were lucky to have a great group for this workshop and there were some really inventive compositions.

Finding out if the artisan papers would work in the small Heidelberg press took a bit of trial and error from Rui, and led to some real ‘happy accidents’.

In the end even the really rough papers could be used and we ended up with a great set of prints.

Jorge gave a quick binding lesson to everyone so that we could all help stitch the books.
